NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani hands out free theater tickets to residents in partnership with festival

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani partnered with an ongoing theater festival to hand out free tickets to city residents.

Starting this past Wednesday and through Jan. 25, Under the Radar theater festival is holding performances of 30 different shows across 25 theaters in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens.

Under their “Under the Radar for All” program festival, organizers are giving away 1,500 free tickets to 12 of the shows being performed.

On Friday, Mr. Mamdani, a Democrat and self-described socialist, handed out some of the free tickets to residents and college students in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Flatbush, per the mayor’s office.

The giveaway took place near Brooklyn College, which is part of the City University of New York system.

“The arts are too often considered a luxury for the wealthy or a treat for the tourists, rather than a form of expression, joy, and relaxation that every New Yorker deserves. I am grateful for Under the Radar’s generosity and their work to share the experience of live theater citywide,” Mr. Mamdani said.

Under the Radar said on its website that it “believes in Mayor Zohran Mamdani‘s vision for an affordable NYC for all. In solidarity with the city of New York and our extraordinary community of partner venues, we are proud to be able to offer free tickets for many of our performances to the general public.”

The festival’s organizers did not say which shows would be included in the giveaway.
